(Mis)adventures of converting a stone barn to a dwelling
Home

A rocky start

After viewing the property, we paid our deposit to the notaires, and went to the bank to sort our mortgage, which was a done deal as far as we knew, having both the means to cover it easily and a entire house as security for the sum.
However, the bank refused us a mortgage and we had to seek an alternative elsewhere. We went with a second bank we had recently opened an account with, and the branch messed our application up completely so it was again rejected. It looked like we were going to be beat before we started, but family came up with an offer to loan us the money to purchase it, and we would rent out our house to fund the building works.
Soon the fleet of my vehicles started to move into the outbuildings
